“From Gönen to Marmara: The Eye Looking at Water” Exhibition Opens
As part of the March 22nd World Water Day, and to draw attention to the importance of water, the poster exhibition titled “From Gönen to Marmara: The Eye Looking at Water,” organized by our college's Gönen Art Commission, opened at the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Additional Service Building. The event was attended by Gönen District Governor Mr. Ahmet Altıntaş, Gönen Deputy Mayor Mehmet Yılman, District Gendarmerie Commander Major Ethem Gökboğa, as well as our college administrators, academics, and students. The opening began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony following a speech by the exhibition curator Assoc. Prof. Emine Yalur, and continued with the guests touring the exhibition area. The works in the exhibition were selected from over 300 applications from artists from 37 different countries as a result of jury evaluation and presented to art lovers. In the exhibition, the ecological, agricultural, and social importance of water, focusing on the Gönen River, was addressed from different perspectives using an artistic language. In this respect, the event aimed to consider water not only as a global problem, but also as a local and vital value that connects nature, agriculture, and human life through the Gönen River.
Each poster drew attention to the current state of water while raising questions about its future and inviting the viewer to take responsibility. The aim of the prepared works was to create awareness about the conservation and sustainable use of water.
On this meaningful day, thanks were extended to all artists and participants; everyone visiting the exhibition was invited to reconsider their relationship with water.
The exhibition will be open to art lovers from March 30 to April 2.
